The Perfect English Country Wedding

A little throw back to what seems like ages ago now, but was actually only May at the beginning of the wedding season, and one wedding which we look back on with pure pleasure is that of Mel and James.

When you are approached by a bride who herself is an events planner you know you are in for a treat, but when you see her mood-board you can’t help but skip with joy! With a colour palette of peach, whites, lots of foliage and gold, which are such a dreamy combination, thrown together with a beautifully sunny spring day made for a quintessentially perfect English country wedding.

After hearing all Mel’s ideas and finding out a little more about the style she liked, I knew we had to create something natural and free flowing in a soft romantic style. As the wedding was in May we had to include one of our all-time favourites, the symbol of an springtime wedding – peonies! I knew I could get the delicate blousy look I was after with Duchesse De Nemo; a beautiful white peony.  To introduce some peach delights into the flowers we also used David Austin Juliet roses, these beauties really are the Chanel of the peach rose world and we cannot get enough of them!

Scent was also very important. All the flowers we chose had their own heavenly scented aroma that blended together perfectly for that divine country-garden sweet scent, nothing over powering, but just in beautiful harmony together. In addition to all the sweet smelling florals we also included a twist by adding some fresh mint, I have a borderline obsession with mint and people are always pleasantly surprised when they see it within my designs. You can grow it easily in the garden and there are so many different varieties with a whole array of sweet scents! We chose to use it in Mel’s flowers not only for its gorgeous scent but for its luscious green colour, and when teamed-up with soft trailing jasmine and dainty asparagus grass we could create a natural free-flowing shape throughout all the wedding flowers.

The finishing touches are so important to the overall feel of a wedding and we pride ourselves on our attention to detail. One of the ways we do this is to think carefully about what and how we bind our bridal party flowers, our firm favourite is to use Kate Cullen’s gorgeous natural silk ribbons which have such an airy light grace about them finishing off our bouquets flawlessly.

It was important that the flowers complimented the feel of the venue; Courteen Hall in Northamptonshire, which was set in the most idyllic and immaculately kept grounds offering each couple the option of an outdoor ceremony, something that is a real treat in this country with our slightly unpredictable and changing weather! Mel and James opted for a marquee for the reception and again the ever important attention to detail was executed to a tee, from the graceful glass chandeliers complimented by our full foliage hanging arrangements to the pale peachy-nude coloured tapered candle sticks and the individual pieces of olive leaf on every place setting made the whole reception picture-perfect, and being blessed with a sunny spring day was just what this couple deserved.
